Workshop 1.5 Hours
Having a measurement sheet for yourself is a wonderful tool when starting any costume project and while shopping. In this class, we will partner up, find and mark our waists with a ribbon, and fill in a thorough measurement sheet that you will take with you. We will show how to find and record each measurement. With costuming in mind, we will find our high/natural waist, wearing waist, and how to measure for corsets. Multiple copies of the measurement sheet will be available, so you can have a few extra blanks too.
Class Size: 15
Workshop Skill Level: All Skill Levels
Materials needed:
- Lots of copies of a provided measurement sheet, pencils with erasers
- Cloth Measuring tape - at least 60". Instructor will have a few on hand that are 120" for size inclusivity and measuring base of neck to floor.
- Recommend wearing moderately fitted clothing (oversized clothing, costumes, and compression fabrics can make measuring inaccurate)
bio:
Yosa Addiss became a historic costumer after pursuing a degree in costume design at KU. She created one of the first websites for custom-made costume gowns in the late 1990s. Yosa has moved on to a career in marketing, but remains a lifelong fan of historical costume. She finds something wonderful in every era, especially if the garments have pockets! Her preferred mediums are sewing, machine embroidery, and hand-crafted embellishments. Find her at yosa.com.
The workshop will take place in the KU Libraries Makerspace (203 A-C), located on the 2nd floor of Anschutz Library. If you are in need of accommodation, please contact the KU Libraries Makerspace - libmakerspace@ku.edu.
